The day is finally here: February 1, 2022.
My book, Terms of Service, is now available for purchase. And if you’ve preordered it, your copy should arrive to your mailbox or your Kindle today!
Today, I want to thank you, my newsletter subscribers and anyone who happens to read this particular piece. I started this newsletter around the same time I began putting together the proposal for the Terms of Service book. I had been writing about the intersection of faith and social media for some time at various outlets, including through the once-weekly Content Made Simple newsletter that has now become just one facet of this project.
Your support throughout the writing of the Terms of Service book and the last couple of years of this newsletter has been so encouraging to me. I mean it when I say that a single email or Twitter message from one of you means more to me than thousands of pageviews. So many of you have reached out over the last couple of years to share about your own experiences, encourage me in my writing, or to provide some other kind of valuable insight.
As I have written before, writing on the internet can feel a bit like shouting into an echoey cave without any guarantee that anyone will shout back, and the greatest joy of this work is when my shouts into the abyss are returned with yours. So, thank you. Thank you so, so much.
But now I have to ask a favor of you. Please. Please. If this newsletter has been helpful to you in any way in the last couple of years, would you consider purchasing a copy of the Terms of Service book? And maybe even purchase a second copy for a friend with whom you could read and discuss it?
Writing for this newsletter is wonderful. It’s like running at the gym or in the park. It’s a great exercise and I enjoy it very much. But writing books is like running a marathon or a 5k race. Anyone who has run a race, even if they have no hope of winning, know that running the race provides a certain thrill that running at the gym simply cannot match.
I want to keep running marathons. Writing this newsletter is great, and I hope to do it for a long time, but like running at the gym is a lot more enjoyable if you’re doing it to train for a marathon, writing for this newsletter is a lot more rewarding if it’s in view of a larger project, a greater challenge.
In order to write more books, I need to sell copies of the books I’ve already written—that’s just sorta how publishing works. It makes me uncomfortable to suggest anyone do something with their hard-earned money, but I am being vulnerable here and asking you: please consider purchasing a copy or two of Terms of Service if you have found this newsletter worthy to read at all. My hope is that the book would help you, and you would definitely be helping me by purchasing a copy.
Again, I cannot adequately express how meaningful it is to me to have been so encouraged and supported by you all throughout the development and now publishing of this book. If you’re able, I hope you would consider purchasing a copy.
Thank you. And we forge ahead! And I promise to talk less about buying the book from now on, unless it’s on sale or something. :-)
